2023-ongoing

A world-leading hub for anthropological research, education and public engagement on mental health, housed at SOAS University of London

Anthropology is the study of what it is to be human in a complex and changing world.

Mental (ill) health encompasses experiences and expressions of collective and individual distress, and varied therapeutic practices and systems intended to alleviate it.

CAMHRA is a pioneering academic centre that bridges these disciplines.

As societies grapple to respond to the scale and complexity of mental health needs, CAMHRA contributes anthropological perspectives to a growing global understanding of how societies can understand mental distress and build effective systems of care.

In order to have real-world impact, it is critical that CAMHRA reaches beyond the bounds of academia, forging meaningful partnerships within healthcare and policy. As such, the story of their work - and the ways and means through which they tell it - must be accessible, resonant and relevant to those varied stakeholders.

Founded in 2024 through a major UKRI grant, I have worked with CAMHRA to develop and implement a communications and brand strategy that positions them as a truly groundbreaking leader on the global stage - with powerful reach, relevance and impact within and beyond academia.
