A listening event exploring British-Caribbean music, memory and identity

Home Is Where You Make It is a live listening event created by singer-songwriter Adannay to accompany the development of their EP of the same name.

The format was first piloted at Brixton House Theatre as an intimate listening event featuring a preview of the EP-in-progress, alongside a short film and a conversation with musicians, scholars and cultural practitioners. Guest speakers included GAIKA, musical director Chris Cameron, and language specialist Indira of Twossaints, with performances from the Caribbean Folk Company and rapper Deacon.

Following its success, the event was restaged at St Ethelburga's Centre for Peace and Reconciliation and later toured across South West England in partnership with Take Art.

The project created a space for audiences to engage with music not only as entertainment, but as cultural memory. Through conversation, storytelling and performance, the event explored how Caribbean musical traditions and diasporic community continue to shape contemporary British culture.

For Adannay, a Black queer artist and granddaughter of the Windrush generation, the event offered a platform to connect personal storytelling with wider cultural histories.

As Adannay’s artist manager, I ideated, produced and project managed the event, overseeing the development of the format from pilot to touring programme.
